Archive for ‘July, 2011’

Here’s the video of me presenting “Tablets – is aviation ready for the post-PC era?” at the Aircraft Commerce Airline & Aerospace MRO & Operations IT Conference in Darmstadt on the 14th of July.

Apologies for amateur video quality. Again it was filmed by Wayne (who I had previously sacked from camera duties), and the last 5 – 10 minutes are missing as the camera went into auto-shut down after 30 minutes which he didn’t notice until I was in the Q&A. You can view the slides here which might not make too much sense without audio – so the video might prove useful for that purpose alone. Aircraft Commerce actually had professional video taken of all presentations, and they will be online in due course. Links for any other coverage will follow as soon as I get them.

Today saw the commencement of a Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 On-Demand implementation project for Fleet Management specialists TR Fleet. Conduce Consulting were originally engaged by TR Fleet to carry out a business process review and system selection exercise to help choose an internal Management Information System. The TR Fleet management team opted for a hosted version of the latest MS Dynamics CRM software which means there is zero capital expenditure for the Warwickshire based start-up. Microsoft offer an “On-Demand” solution for the 2011 version of their CRM package and charge a flat fee per user per month with no long term contracts and no requirement for dedicated hardware or infrastructure other than an internet connection for each user.

The project will be spread over several phases with initial phase roll out expected to be completed well before the end of August in time for the usual fleet renewal rush in September with the new ’61’ registrations.

In the presentation slides I used at the Aircraft Commerce Airline & Aerospace MRO & Operations IT Conference last week I embedded a couple of QR codes to allow delegates to easily scan and refer to information resources. This was the first time I’d done this so was interested to know if anyone used them or not. I use Delivr to generate my QR Codes and this allows me to see exact details of time and place an individual code had been scanned.

I was delighted to see that QR codes used in my presentation had been scanned a total of 12 times during my presentation, one of them was scanned 5 times…. and a number had been scanned since then.

I think that counts as a success. I’ll definitely use them again.

Here are some photos taken on the way and during the Aircraft Commerce Airline & Aerospace MRO & Operations IT Conference near Frankfurt this week.

The green machine takes a well earned break somewhere in Belgium on our way to Frankfurt. (yes we drove)

Wayne reviews the conference agenda with organiser Ed Haskey whilst my presentation is tested on the venue’s video equipment.

Setting up the exhbition stand. We can now do it in 10 minutes flat.

The conference venue in Darmstadt was an impressive building though the air conditioning and internet were the only moans. We were the first to arrive.

The Aircraft Commerce guys show off their new exhibition pop-up stands. I wonder who designed and supplied those? Hmm?

The new AircraftIT leaflets look pretty smart hot off the press. Another nice job by the Dreamscape Design team.

Day One and the conference begins. Our old friend Steve Radford of ATC Lasham presents an MRO IT project case study.

Here’s a sneak peek at a couple of the slides I’ll be using in my presentation “Tablets – is Aviation Ready for the post-PC Era?” next week in Frankfurt at the Aircraft Commerce Airline & Aerospace MRO & Operator IT Conference – EMEA. I’ll be presenting at 0930 local time on Thursday the 14th of July on the subject of using tablet devices in commercial aviation.

Sneak Peek – Frankfurt Presentation

As usual I’ll be posting the full slide deck and any other coverage here and on our presentations page as soon as possible after the event. During the conference we’ll also be using the #AeroIT hashtag on Twitter and LinkedIn. Keep watching this space for the best coverage of the number one aerospace IT event.

This is an email (in full) which I sent to our team this morning. It should be self explanatory.

Guys,
Wayne and I have been discussing our mission for Conduce Software and Consulting over the last couple of days and we have decided to “codify” our message of why we are here. This is not just marketing blurb. This is what we believe and have done so since the company was founded and before. We have preached this message occasionally, but we have learned that it is vital for us all to understand this philosophy, to believe in it and all pull in the same direction. This message is not carved in stone – this is just a first draft, it will change over time. It will evolve and will be shaped by you and the market we are working in. Please take 5 minutes to read these statements of What We Believe.

SOFTWARE
Why?
We believe that most business software sucks. Software you use at work should be just as pleasing to use as software you use at home. If this were the case people would be more productive.

How?
Business software should be designed around the user.
Business software should be simpler with no added complexity.
Business software should be smaller with no added bloat.
Business software should be open to allow other systems to connect to it.

What?
It just so happens that we make software for business which is pleasing to use, is simple, beautifully designed and can be connected easily to other systems. Wanna buy some?

CONSULTING
Why?
We believe that business IT should be simple. Over-complicating solutions to add value and to make people think they cannot possibly cope without outside help sucks.

How?
By really understanding a business, its people, its processes and focussing on end results it is possible to provide simple and affordable solutions to what you might think are really complex problems.

What?
We provide IT and business consulting that focuses on simple relationships between information technology and corporate strategy. We don’t try and trick you into believing solutions are really complex or expensive when in fact they are not. Wanna give us a try?

These statements have been added to the Conduce Website here:  https://www.conduce.net/Software/SubPage.aspx?f=What-We-Believe and here https://www.conduce.net/Consulting/Index.aspx
It is vital that you understand these statements, know where to find them, and know how to challenge those beliefs. We want you to believe them too.
Please ask Wayne or me if you need anything or have anything to say…. Right lets go and do great things!
